best goalkeepers in the world 2024
Goalkeeping is one of the main pillars on which a football team relies, and the strength of any team is primarily measured by the goalkeeper capable of protecting his goal and maintaining the cleanliness of his net to lead his team to championship platforms and win titles.
The ranking of the best players is always controversial among football fans, and although it is less intense when it comes to goalkeeping, there is still a lot of debate about who the best goalkeepers in the world are.
Best goalkeeper in the world in 2023
The final list for the best goalkeeper in the world award witnessed the presence of the Moroccan international Yassine Bounou, a player for the Saudi Al-Hilal football team.
FIFA announced the final list for the "Best" award for the best goalkeepers in the world, including Bounou alongside four other goalkeepers.
The Moroccan star competes for this award alongside the Belgian Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, the Brazilian Alisson Becker from Liverpool, the Cameroonian André Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, and the German Marc-André ter Stegen from Barcelona.
FIFA stated in a press release: "Football fans from all over the world can vote for The Best FIFA awards, for the best player, best female player, best male football coach, best female football coach, best goalkeeper, best female goalkeeper, and the FIFA Fan Award."
The "Atlas Lions" goalkeeper contributed to the national team reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar last year, and securing fourth place globally, in addition to winning the UEFA Europa League with his former team, Sevilla, after defeating AS Roma in the final match of the continental competition last May.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan international Yassine Bounou was selected as one of the candidates for the Ballon d'Or award for the best player and best goalkeeper.

Courtois began his career at the age of 18 with the Genk club, where he delivered a distinguished performance that caught the attention of top European clubs, notably Chelsea.
Courtois moved to the London club in 2011 for £8 million, but he did not get his chance due to the excellent form of the first-team goalkeeper, Petr Cech.
The Belgian spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, during which he won the Europa League in 2012, the Copa del Rey in 2013, and the La Liga title in 2014.
Courtois moved to Real Madrid in 2018 for £35 million, and despite his modest performance in the first season, he returned in subsequent seasons to become a key player for the team.
Ederson
is a Brazilian goalkeeper who plays in the English Premier League with Manchester City, which he joined in the summer of 2017 from Benfica for 40 million euros.
Since then, the player has been a key part of Pep Guardiola's plans and has contributed significantly to many of his club's triumphs, including his historic treble in the 2022-23 season.
The Brazilian has appeared for Manchester City in 291 matches so far and has kept a clean sheet on 140 occasions.
On a collective level, Ederson has achieved 15 titles with Manchester City, including five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League title in the 2022-23 season.
Jan Oblak
is a Slovenian goalkeeper who plays for Atletico Madrid and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with many fans considering him the best.
Oblak moved to Atletico Madrid in 2014 from Benfica in Portugal in a deal worth 16 million euros, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the Spanish league at the time.
Oblak has won the Zamora Trophy three times with Atletico in the 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 seasons.
Oblak is known for his quick reactions, agility, outstanding ball reading, good positioning, and excellent handling of crosses.

Many great goalkeepers have indeed been half of the team throughout their period of excellence, and it is difficult to list all of these in a list of just ten players, however, we will try to be as fair as possible in our own ranking.
